We are embarking on the new year. 2020 is the beginning of a new decade. Numerology says that we are entering this decade with the number 4 (adding all the numbers together in 2020). The number 4 is considered representative of hard work, determination, planning and laying the groundwork for the future.
It sounds like we are going to need to be well nourished. What better way to start off the year with a great meal and little luck to go along with it? In the Southern United States, the traditional New Year meal consists of black-eyed peas, greens and corn bread. Peas for pennies, greens for dollars and golden corn bread for, well gold.
You can combine these in one dish by making hoppin’ John. Here is a link to a Southern Living recipe for hoppin’ John. What a better way than to start the new year with this delectable soup? Seasoned with salt, pepper, bay leaf and crushed red pepper it promises to wake up your taste buds while satisfying your tummy.
